Welcome to the annual COast to Coast Event
in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support
The 36 mile walk, cycle or ride from Ullapool to Bonar Bridge takes place yearly in a weekend in late April or early May. The purpose is to raise money for MCS (Macmillan Cancer Support) and at the same time to offer the experience of walking from the West coast of Scotland to the East. It attracts approximately 70 – 100 participants each year, some travelling up from various parts of the country to take part. We have had in the past parties from Germany and France. - This event has taken place annually since 1996.
The purpose is to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Since 1996 the walk has raised over £300,000!
In September 2016 Macmillan awarded the Sir Hugh Dundas Award for volunteers to May Gilchrist

The whole weekend is a “fun weekend” coupled with the strenuous 36 mile walk or cycle or a 25 mile ride on your horse. Some do the whole thing on the Sunday, others over the Saturday and the Sunday. Cars are left at Bonar Bridge on the Saturday and participants are taken by coach to Ullapool to stay at the Caledonian Hotel on the Saturday evening. Mini buses are used to transport participants to and from the beginning and end of the walk each day.
Your options are:
(1) Walk one third of the route on Saturday, and the remainder on Sunday (2) Walk or cycle 36 miles on Sunday (3) Ride 7 miles to pasture on Saturday, and 18 miles from pasture to Croik on Sunday (4) Walk of 18 strenuous miles in rugged scenery in the wilds of Scotland (5) Walk 22 miles, less strenuous part of the route, but still savour the beauty of Scotland |
Occasionally, the open hill tracks have some steep ascents/descents. Walkers tend to do the whole walk over two days, but it is possible, though very tiring, to do the full 36 miles in one day. For horses to attempt the full 36 miles would entail riding the final 11 miles on main roads which is not advisable.
