From the moment of arriving in Bonar Bridge on the Saturday afternoon and entering the Bridge Hotel Bar, (not knowing anyone else), we were made to feel very welcome and part of the "family" affair, by the others that were there, whether they were the returning walkers or the team of mature "Boy Scouts"! Everybody spoke and asked how you were, if you had just returned from the walk and so on. It really was a warm, homely atmosphere. I just felt very sorry for the one girl serving in the bar, they should have had more staff on to cope with the numbers, but that is no reflection on your organisation - that's the hotels.
The warm, friendly, family atmosphere continued on the bus when we were all offered a wee dram. The hotel was very comfortable and gave a very nice meal and prompt service.
Everyone of your volunteers from minibus drivers, the marshalls, to "Boy Scouts" they were an hilarious team with great crack, the banter was flowing as fast as the river!! And the warm welcome even wider, just what was needed at the half way point, and again the wee drams were on offer, as they were at the tea tent. They were all pleasant, helpful, friendly and homely.
Although the weather was a bit driech at times it did nothing to dampen my spirits and we had a tail wind all the way - whooppee!!
After my wee close encounter with the ground I was looked after very well and warmly at the tea tent, where I have to say I indulged in a wee Brandy. Joe from Cotag, (hope I've got that correct), was very professional in his part as an event First Aider. He went above and beyond his remit and insisted on driving me home. He said he felt he would be failing in his duties if he didn't see me safely home and into the care of my son.
So I extend a huge thank you to you and all the team for making my first Coast2Coast experience very memorable, enjoyable and extremely muddy!!! As Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll be back!" - and not just to sell the raffle tickets.
Thank you again May, you should be very proud of all your achievements over the past 20 years.
Cheers - Annie
PS: Hi May,
Sorry I omitted to mention in the previous email, how impressed I was that en route not only were there provisions for the human participants but that there were hay bails out for the horses and at each food stop carrots were also available. This is just so considerate. I also liked the concept of the event being open to walkers, riders and bikers.
Thanks again
Annie
